Welcome
Hey there! If you don’t know me, I’m Mary Catherine or “MC.” I’m behind the lens for Mary Catherine Photography. My husband Michael and I both grew up in Northeast Ohio and we met at The University of Akron during undergraduate. We each pursued graduate degrees in different cities before we were able to move back home together and get married! We live in the Akron area with our silly, lovable golden retriever, “Mahalo,” and are so happy to be home near the people we love! I’m so excited to announce the website for Mary Catherine Photography and to share about my journey as an Akron Photographer serving Northeast Ohio and beyond!
My Journey with Photography
I have loved taking photos since I first had the chance to have a camera in my hand. My first opportunity to use a DSLR came in middle school when I chose photography as an elective project in art class. My neighbor was so kind to lend me his camera, and that was the start of it all! I have always found joy in admiring nature and spending time outside. When I was working on that project, I was lucky enough to have an ice storm come through and coat everything in ice. Capturing the sunset through the ice was magical!
Since then, I’ve always continued to pursue photography alongside my other endeavors. In high school I worked in the photography department at the local drug store where I was so proud to have my photos put on display, and where I learned to develop film and process images. In college when I was prepping for graduate school, I made sure I left enough space in my class schedule to take a photography course and purchased my first DSLR. During graduate school I was incredibly blessed to have my first opportunity to photograph a wedding!
Chasing Goals
Post graduate school, it was always my goal to be able to establish a photography business and get my “big girl camera.” I’m so excited and proud to be pursuing my passion and be able to say I’ve truly made my dreams a reality! Sometimes I have to remember to take a step back and reflect on how amazing it is to accomplish a big goal like this. Michael has been so incredibly supportive of me throughout this journey and I am so grateful for him! Everything from trusting me as I invested in all my new gear to coming along to sessions and carrying my gear or lifting me up on his shoulders for a better angle to cheering me on and encouraging me to pursue continued education and amazing opportunities such as my first styled shoot this May!
To every single family, friend, and client that has supported me along the way to this point- thank you! I am truly so grateful for the encouragement, the new opportunities, and the word of mouth referrals that have led me to this point!
