Cleveland Waterfront Wedding | An Elegant, Joy-Filled Coastal Celebration
There are wedding days that are beautiful because of the details, and then there are wedding days you’ll always remember because of the way they made you feel. My favorite days are the best of both worlds- visually beautiful, while also being incredibly joyful and an extraordinary celebration of love… Joe and Maria’s Cleveland waterfront wedding day was one of those days!
Leading up to their wedding day, Maria joked that their excitement probably exceeded any couple I had ever photographed. I smiled when they told me that, but after spending the day with them, I can honestly say they weren’t exaggerating. From the moment I walked through the front door that morning until the very last song on the dance floor, their joy was absolutely contagious!
The day began exactly the way every Cleveland wedding photographer hopes it will. Sunshine poured through the windows, filling the house with beautiful natural light. Everyone was ahead of schedule, relaxed, and genuinely excited to celebrate. Maria’s family welcomed me with open arms, laughter filled the house, and there was an overwhelming sense of excitement!
Blue, White & Lemon Details Inspired by the Italian Coast
Maria’s bridal details were so chic and beautiful, and I had so been looking forward to them extra as I prepped for a trip to the Amalfi Coast myself! Soft shades of blue, delicate white florals, beautiful Amalfi-inspired patterns, fresh lemons, and timeless stationery gave everything an elegant coastal feel.
Knowing her vision ahead of time, I even dehydrated lemon slices before the wedding so I could incorporate them into styling her invitation suite! It was such a small detail, but I knew that beautiful pop of yellow would complement the beautiful blue-and-white color palette she had so thoughtfully chosen.
A Meaningful Catholic Wedding Ceremony
Joe and Maria chose to celebrate their marriage with a full Catholic wedding Mass, something that was incredibly meaningful to both of them. Throughout the ceremony, Joe simply couldn’t take his eyes off Maria…. the sweet glances they shared on the altar spoke louder than words ever could. Those simple, fleeting moments are some of my favorites to capture because they show so much emotion and remind couples what their day felt like in the moment!
Waterfront Portraits Along Lake Erie at East 9th Street Pier
After the ceremony, we made our way to East 9th Street Pier for portraits along Cleveland’s waterfront, and I truly don’t think we could have asked for a more beautiful summer afternoon. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue, Lake Erie stretched endlessly into the distance, and the sun was shining without a cloud ini the sky! With expansive lake views and open skies in every direction, the waterfront created an elegant backdrop that transported us from simply a Cleveland waterfront wedding day to the beautiful coastal inspired day these two had been dreaming up!
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings in Cleveland is the variety of beautiful waterfront locations we have along Lake Erie. East 9th Street Pier offers such a gorgeous backdrop for portraits, with the expansive water and open sky lending themselves to beautiful light and airy photos!
There’s something especially beautiful about photographing a couple along the Cleveland waterfront on a sunny summer wedding day… The blue of Lake Erie, the bright sky, and the natural light create images that feel relaxed and coastal while still feeling unmistakably like Cleveland.
For couples celebrating any of of Cleveland’s waterfront venues, East 9th Street Pier can be a great option for wedding photos on the lake with coastal views. I love that this location in particular gives us plenty of room for bridal party and the bride and groom! Other waterfront locations and venues, such as The Shoreby Club, offers their own amazing access and views of Lake Erie for expansive waterfront portraits.
For Joe and Maria, the combination of the blue water, cloudless sky, sunshine, and their beautiful blue-and-white wedding details made this part of the day feel almost like a little piece of the Amalfi Coast right here in Cleveland.
A Wedding Reception Filled With Joy
If I had to choose one word to describe Joe and Maria’s wedding day, it would simply be joy.
Maria told me on their wedding day that, as an event planner, she had never seen an event go perfectly, but today was the day! Everything flowed seamlessly… The weather was flawless, family and friends were completely present, and most importantly, Joe and Maria were able to simply enjoy the day they had spent so much time planning. Maria was literally jumping with excitement, surrounded by the people she loves most, while Joe smiled from ear to ear right beside her. Their enthusiasm spread to every guest in the room, and I couldn’t keep from smiling the whole time! That is the kind of happiness I wish for all of my couples!
A Cleveland Wedding Filled With Sunshine, Love & Laughter
Looking back through these photographs, I don’t just remember the beautiful blue details, the sunshine reflecting off Lake Erie, or the elegant waterfront portraits, I remember how Joe and Maria made everyone around them feel.
Their excitement was contagious from beginning to end. They were completely present with one another, genuinely grateful for every person who came to celebrate with them, and determined to soak in every moment of the day they had waited so long for. It’s weddings like theirs that remind me why I love photographing weddings in Cleveland!
Beautiful details certainly make a wedding memorable, but it’s genuine joy that makes a wedding day unforgettable, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been there to document every moment of this joy-filled day!
